Timothy Breidegam Track Renovation

Support the Timothy Breidegam Track Renovation

Moravian University and Moravian Athletics are investing in our student-athletes and the campus community. The Timothy Breidegam Track renovation will begin this summer and be completed by football season in August.

We need your support on this much-needed, million-dollar investment to provide our athletes with a leading-edge surface that will be safer and improve their performance every time they compete. Your gift will help continue the decorated success of Moravian’s Track & Field program for many years to come. Please consider giving a gift of any amount to support the investment in the new Timothy Breidegam Track at Moravian University!

Gifts can be given online using our secure giving portal or by mailing a check, payable to Moravian University with “New Track” in the memo line, to 1200 Main Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. You can also call the Development office directly at 610-861-1336.

Also, does your employer have a matching gift program? Matching gifts are a great way to double (even triple!) the value of your gift without additional out-of-pocket expense to you.  Visit moravian.edu/matchmygift to see if your employer will match your donation and learn more!

The Timothy Breidegam Track has been a remarkable facility for nearly two decades. We have been able to host over 30 invitationals, multiple conference championship meets, and even the AARTF Championships in May 2022, which produced record numbers of NCAA qualifiers. However, at nearly 20 years old, the surface is in need of repairs with numerous seams and cracks creating tripping hazards, depressed areas that pool water for long durations of time, and the paint becoming almost worn off for our hurdle marks or at the start and finish lines.

We have consulted numerous coaches and companies to see what would be the best fit for the Moravian University Track & Field program. We ultimately decided on Beynon, the same product used for Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, which hosted the 2022 World Track & Field Championships, and Boston University, which has become known as the fastest indoor track in the United States. We know their product will provide our athletes with the fastest surface for them to compete on and balance energy absorption to minimize the risk of injury to our student-athletes who train on this surface daily and throughout the year.”

Current State of the Track

In lane two on the homestretch, after any rain, the track has substantial pooling that lasts for at least 24 hours. Before meets, the team uses a leaf blower to get rid of the pools. Leveling the track will allow for proper drainage.

The track continues to peel and split, especially near the end of the first turn, which is becoming a tripping hazard. Grass grows out of the seams between lanes, which is unsightly for recruits to see. The repairs to the track will create a consistent surface without tripping hazards and the unappealing weeds growing in the middle of the turn.

The paint, especially near the finish line, is becoming so faded that the team lays athletic tape down for it to be picked up by the timers at meets. About four years ago, the team had to paint new hurdle marks on the home stretch.
