Moravian College to host InFocus Town Hall on April 10

Innovative program examines War, Peace-building and the Just Society; Poverty and Inequality; Sustainability; and Health and Healthcare

BETHLEHEM, PA, April 8, 2019: Today, Moravian College announced that on Wednesday, April 10 it will host its first "InFocus Town Hall," highlighting student research addressing urgent world challenges, and robust dialogue with students, faculty and community experts from Bethlehem and beyond. This event will be held on the Main Street campus of Moravian College in the Haupert Union Building (HUB) beginning at 5:45 p.m.

“Over 160 students have been hard at work developing research this semester. Their questions address wide-ranging issues that affect all our lives. Just a few examples include: mass incarceration, children's mental health, the use of art in hospitals, sustainable development of energy and other resources, using theater to raise questions of social justice, addressing the needs of long-term caregivers, and much more.,” said Kelly Denton-Borhaug, executive director, InFocus Centers of Investigation at Moravian College.  “The InFocus Town Hall builds the bridge between the classroom and the work of innovative partners in our wider community; it strengthens student civic engagement, and student excitement about the possibilities of research to make a difference regarding challenges facing our world.”

According to The Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) the town hall format deepens student learning, creates stronger and more beneficial relationships with community partners, and increases student engagement. At Moravian’s InFocus Town Hall 2019 students and faculty from the courses, as well as local community experts, will gather to share and reflect on their research and its possibilities for making positive change in the world.
