Soprano Kayleigh Bennett was one of only 18 vocalists age 18 and older accepted into the 2018 summer program at the Up North Vocal Institute in Michigan. The prestigious program provides four weeks of intensive training for the voice, body, and mind, employing a team of master voice teachers and coaches along with specialists in exercise and nutrition.

“It was an invaluable experience,” says Bennett, “and had it not been for the scholarships I was awarded, I would not have been able to attend.”

A senior from West Milford, New Jersey, Bennett will graduate in spring with a double major in voice performance and music education and a wealth of experiences offered to her throughout her years at Moravian University.

Bennett has been performing as a soloist with various vocal ensembles since freshman year and also performs as a soloist at Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem and St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Emmaus. Her versatility as a soprano and mezzo soprano earned her a place with the Allentown Symphony Chorus, where she is the only soprano student member. “I do gigs around town, too,” she adds.

Bennett’s interest in music embraces more than singing. A trumpeter for 10 years, she has performed with the Moravian University Marching Band, Big Band, and Baroque Ensemble, and she is the principal trumpet for the Moravian University Community Orchestra. As secretary of the Moravian University Choir and vice president of the Women’s Chorus, Bennett has gained administrative and leadership skills. And through her education major, she teaches as part of her voice pedagogy class and, outside Moravian, gives lessons at the Lesson Center in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania.

Currently Bennett is auditioning at various conservatories with the intent to study opera at the graduate level. Her beautiful, clear soprano voice is sure to persuade her listeners.
