Moravian College’s AAUW Student Affiliates Celebrating Take Back the Night

The march and rally intends to raise awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence

BETHLEHEM, PA., March 24, 2017 – Today, Moravian College announced that on Monday, March 27, the AAUW Student Affiliates will be hosting an event to celebrate Take Back the Night, beginning with a march at 6:00 p.m., followed by a rally. The rally will feature performers and speakers highlighting the mission of the Take Back the Night Foundation.

“The AAUW student affiliates feel that Take Back the Night is an important opportunity to promote awareness of all forms of violence and create a safe environment here on campus and in the community,” commented Stacey Zaremba, event organizer and professor of psychology at Moravian College.  “The goal of the event is to have students and members of the community join forces to speak out against these crimes, and fight to end sexual violence.”

The Take Back the Night Foundation has sponsored events on over 600 college campuses and seeks to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence. This year’s rally at Moravian College will feature Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in Allentown, Christiana Dominguez, Executive Director of VAST – Valley Against Sex Trafficking, and Emily Rieser, Senior Outreach Educator of Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley.

The Take Back the Night event will begin with the march starting at H.I.L.L. on the Moravian College Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus at 6:00 p.m., and continue to the Main Street Campus where the rally will be held at Johnston Hall. This is a free event, and open to all students and members of the community.
