Bethlehem, Pa., October 20, 2015— Author and educator Irshad Manji will visit Moravian College to present “Diversity 2015: From Multiculturalism to Interculturalism ”on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Prosser Auditorium. The author of The Trouble with Islam Today: Allah, Liberty, & Love, Manji will discuss the implications that misguided multiculturalism can have on women in today's society. The talk is open the public and free of charge.
Manji has made it her mission to help people live with integrity and wholeness despite the limitations of culture, religion, or society. She grew up in a violent household and has decided to make it her commitment to use her education to promote positive reform. She dedicates herself to helping people find their voice, ask questions, and think for themselves.
Manji is the founder and director of the Moral Courage Project, which equips students to make values-based decisions. She has turned her journey as a religious reformer into teachings about professional leadership, informed by cutting-edge research from across the disciplines. She also serves as the executive producer of Moral Courage TV, which is dubbed the most inspiring channel on YouTube. The channel helps tell the stories of individuals who are standing up when others sit down ranging anywhere from bullying, breaking up a gang, or seeking truth; the heroes of the stories refuse to fail.
At New York University—Wagner, Manji teaches a course called Moral Courage and Your Purpose. Within the course students learn: articulating how you want to serve your society, identifying your core values, turning your values into action, knowing when to step up or step back, and staying motivated to deliver on your vision. For her efforts in both business and non-profit work Manji earned the Young Global Leader award, Ethical Humanist Award, and Oprah Winfrey awarded her the first annual Chutzpah Award for “audacity, nerve, boldness and conviction.”
