BETHLEHEM, PA, May 3, 2022: Today, Moravian University announced that Dr. Belinda Waller-Peterson, associate professor of English, has been selected for the role of Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, replacing Professor Jane Berger who served in the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion since 2019.
Professor Waller-Peterson was hired in 2016 to teach courses at the intersection of African American literature and culture, Women and Gender Studies, and the Medical Humanities.
“I’m really excited for Dr. Peterson to join the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” said Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian University. “Belinda brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. What I’m particularly grateful for is her genuine love f or our students, so we are really fortunate to have her in such an important position.”
Dr. Waller-Peterson will have the opportunity to raise awareness on the Moravian campus through her own research and scholarship and work with strategic partnerships across the institution, especially within academic departments and faculty colleagues, to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“I couldn’t be happier to have Dr. Waller-Peterson join our team in the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” said Dr. G. Christopher Hunt, vice president and dean for Equity and Inclusion at Moravian University. “This is literally a dream come true because I know how highly respected she is among both students, faculty, and the staff. She’s a courageous and ethical leader for whom I have the utmost respect.”
“I am committed to the work of advancing equity and inclusion at Moravian University and have done this work for some years already, as a faculty member and as an honest and studious voice in our community in some of its most challenging moments,” said Waller-Peterson.
Waller-Peterson will officially begin her role with the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in August for the start of the 2022-2023 academic year.
