Bethlehem, Pa., June 9, 2015—Moravian College will open its doors to local musicians this summer through a series of educational camps and lessons. Three week-long music camps and private music lessons, are available via application and audition to young musicians of all levels.
Budding vocalists can spend a week at Moravian College June 22 - 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This camp focuses on giving young singers insight on theory and musicianship, chamber ensembles, and a choir. There will also be private lessons offered, as well as elective classes in classical, jazz and Broadway. Private lessons will consist of two 30-minute lessons with a member from the Moravian College faculty. The duo will prepare for a recording session with an accompanist for a final concert on that Friday, where lunch will be provided. For young people with an interest in jazz, Moravian College will host the Jazz Summer Camp from July 6 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. For five days, campers will participate in musician workshops, classes in recording techniques, a small recording session, jazz history and jam sessions. Students will show off what they’ve learned on that Friday. In addition, high school students who participate are eligible to receive credit if they are at least a junior. The College’s final summer camp opportunity will take place July 13-17 with the Young Musicians’ Camp. Campers will perform with chamber ensembles and take classes in music theory and history. They’ll participate in ear training, compositions workshops, and various masterclasses from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. everyday. This camp will conclude with a concert performance at Moravian College’s Foy Concert Hall. In addition to the week-long camps, Moravian College Music Institute is also accepting applications for private music lessons this summer for any age, skill level and instrument.
