BETHLEHEM, PA, October 29, 2018: Moravian College is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2018–2021. Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

In 2013, President Grigsby proposed the Comenius Access to Technology (CAT) initiative, which called for Moravian to provide each student with two Apple® devices—a MacBook Pro® and an iPad®— and was inspired by John Amos Comenius’ vision of engaging and accessible education for all. Moravian College’s CAT initiative aims to provide a value-added educational experience, enhanced by innovative software, training, and technical support.
“We’ve removed a barrier and given them (students) a level playing field … Some of them, it’s the first laptop they’ve ever owned.” said LaKeisha Thorpe, Apple teacher and assistant dean of graduate and adult studies at Moravian College. “That’s equality. That type of equality has been missing from higher education since its inception.”
