Keynote speaker Professor Eric Klinenberg, the Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at NYU, will present on April 22
BETHLEHEM, PA, April 20, 2020: Today, Moravian College announced its annual InFocus symposium, usually held on the college’s Main Street campus, will be held online April 22 and 23. Registration for this event is free and open to all who are interested in thinking about scarcity, poverty, and inequality. The InFocus Symposium will feature over fifty presentations from two different continents, five different states, and six different universities and colleges. The InFocus Symposium ‘20 is presented in memory of the late John V. Reynolds, professor of Political Science at Moravian College from 1979 through his death in January 2020.
“We’re grateful that all of the presenters could make the adjustment to present online and give us the opportunity to offer interesting and excellent sessions and presentations,” said Dr. Heikki Lempa, co-director of the Center for Investigation on Poverty and Inequality at Moravian College. “With the current pandemic, moving the symposium online was necessary, but it also provided a unique opportunity to reach out to a much wider audience around the globe.”
The InFocus Symposium ‘20 will explore scarcity as it is manifested in justice and poverty and also as a scarcity in our lifestyles and neurological processes. Special attention will be given to the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Eric Klinenberg, a sociologist and the Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University will deliver his keynote, Spaces of Equality: Facing a Pandemic, on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. EDT. Klineberg’s keynote will address the question of space in the context of the current pandemic.
