Cardiology/electrophysiology, cardiothoracic intensive care, surgical intensive care, and post-anesthesia critical care. Mentoring relationships, especially those of junior faculty transitioning into their new roles as nurse educators.

Biography

Dr. Specht earned a PhD from Villanova University with her coursework focusing on Nursing Education. She has a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing also from Villanova University and a Master’s Degree in Nursing, with a focus on Nursing Education, from DeSales University. Dr. Specht has taught baccalaureate nursing students in both a traditional and an accelerated format, as well as RN-BS/RN-BSN and Master’s level students. She had a previous faculty appointment at DeSales University prior to joining the faculty at Moravian University where she currently holds the rank of Assistant Professor. Dr. Specht has taught undergraduate research, leadership and management, and fundamental and medical/surgical courses, including clinical courses. She has also taught pathophysiology and advanced pathophysiology.

Her research interest is related to mentoring relationships, especially their impact on nursing faculty. Additionally, she seeks to ease the transition of junior faculty into their new roles as nurse educators though the use of mentoring. Her clinical experience as a professional nurse includes specialties such as cardiology/electrophysiology, cardiothoracic intensive care, surgical intensive care, and post-anesthesia critical care. She also has experience educating nurses related to the care of home-based tracheostomy and ventilator patients. In addition to teaching and practicing nursing, she has functioned as a consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Dr. Specht has served on the Board of Directors for the Mu Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau (DeSales University).
